Despite the highest of hopes and tons of anticipation, not very much of the trip went well. We had relatively smooth travel even though some snow and winter conditions slowed us down a bit through the Ely section of the journey. The feces and the fan didn’t get acquainted until we arrived at the track. There was almost solid rain the whole weekend and not just a little bit either. If that wasn’t enough to kill the vibe then the fact that almost all of the heavy hitters didn’t even bother to come out due to the said precipitation just added water to the wet blanket.
When Sunday morning dawned we left our hotel and headed to the track to have our session. We were the first ones there and got out on the circuit right away. After four to six laps or so the car started misfiring. A silly little problem had flared up again although it was minor it did stop our show until 4pm when the day was nearly done. The rest or the group showed up around 12pm and started to play on the track. Ryan Fadera of Team R.A.D. let me take his comp car out since my ride was “drinkin’ outta cups.” His S13 drove very well and I felt comfortable after the 1st lap. HTM is a different animal in the rain and I thoroughly enjoyed playing with all the different lines that were possible. Rob Riter was unable to make it out to the track due to some unfortunate events on his end so at least my mechanical issues were not the reason my co-driver missed his seat time.
In the end I did get a good number of laps in with all things considered. It was very warm in the southern country even with the rain, and I still have a bunch of new tires ready to kill!
I am going through the pictures and will drop some here soon.
